Newsha Tavakolian: The girl 1997
I took this picture during a reformist election rally in 1997.
The girl, a first time voter, was given a rose. 24 years later, when I came across the image the naivety of the girl’s gaze made me wanted to kill this image, so I printed it and ripped it apart. A year later I felt guilty and put it back to together. I saw girls and boys fighting for change, for a better life. I put her picture back together, she also wanted to live and change.
